I am always on the lookout for easy recipes that can feed my family for a number of days AND are healthy. As someone who is on a low carb diet, I also need it to be tasty so that mid-way through the week, I don't decide to indulge.
Expertise needed: Beginner. Can boil rice :-).
Cost: Less than $10.
Time: The actual prep time is about 10-minutes. The cooking time is about 6 to 7-hours.
Feedback: My family LOVES this meal!
You will need: A whole Perdue chicken (I got mine from Wal-mart and it cost $4.77), a crockpot, the below spice list. You can add or remove whatever you don't like. The 3 staples I think you should have though are seasoned salt, pepper and butter. Everything else can be substituted with your favorite seasoning.
- 1 tbsp Minced Onions
- 1/2 tbsp Seasoned salt
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder (I don't like cooking with a ton of garlic but I do like a hint of it)
- 1 tbsp Thyme
- 1/4 tsp Dry rosemary
- 1 tsp Adobo all purpose seasoning
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 3 TBS of butter or butter substitite (not shown in picture)

Step 1: Thaw the chicken.

Step 2: Mix all the spices together while the chicken thaws.

Step 3: Then rub the spices all over the chicken. I also rubbed it on the inside. Set your crockpot on high and then leave it be for 6-hours.

The outcome is a very yummy and succulent chicken. The meat falls off the bones.

This has been part of a meal for us on 3 different occasions. SCORE! Considering how inexpensive and easy this is, you can't go wrong with it.
